Well, here is the millionth Fenty Beauty Review you are about to read. Its safe to say this is the most hyped beauty brand of this year.. and I am here to say that the hype around all of this is very real. I picked up a good amount of items.. and probably a bit more later on. I wanted to use what I bought for a few days before giving an honest review.
I just have to say, I love how Rihanna set up everything for this line and how she officially launched it during New York Fashion Week as well as hosting the event. The fact that she launched 40 incredible shades of foundation is amazing. I appreciate how for her first round of launches, she strictly focused on complexion. I can’t wait to see what else she is coming out with.. crossing my fingers for a powder version of her foundation. Majority of this line I bought online. The fact that the whole line was still available the next day online made the shopping experience super easy.
Let’s start off with the Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer aka a oily/combo skin dream. Since I’m combination skin I wouldn’t say I get extremely oily so I don’t go for mattifying primers necessarily. I like this one because it keeps my oily T-zone tamed without making me feel dry in certain areas. It doesn’t blur imperfections like crazy, but it smooths out my skin really well which prepares it for a good foundation application. I also like how it still gives a soft natural finish without making me look overly matte and dull. Is it needed? I would say that’s up to you. I love trying new primers (my holy grail is from Hourglass) and since I was running out of mine I think this was a good choice for me to pick up! Overall, I would give this a 8/10.
And for me, the star of the show, the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation is quickly becoming a new favorite. I actually picked this one up in store because I needed to see the shades in person. I made a guess of what I was from online and I was actually right! I picked up the shade 210 (for reference I’m a NC25 with neutral/yellowish undertones) I would highly suggest going in store and getting matched because this foundation does dry down. I was honestly not going to pick this up because when I read full coverage I was turned off. I’m a light coverage kind of gal so I was happy with the little sample I received from my online purchase. When I decided to try it on I was SO impressed. I used my beauty blender to apply which went on so easily. I would say this is buildable coverage which did not look cakey at all. Surprisingly it felt like I didn’t have any foundation on and my skin was looking and feeling really smooth and even. I usually need to powder everywhere, so the one thing that won me over completely was that I only needed to powder areas where I get oily and that’s it! At the end of the day, I was a bit oily in a few areas (nothing a few blotting sheets can’t fix) but for the most part the foundation stayed in place. Dare I say this is a new holy grail foundation? Maybe. Overall, I would give this a 9/10.
Another item I picked up in store was the Match Stix Trio in Medium. I’ve been into cream contours lately so I thought it would be best to try the trio out. I’ve heard mixed reviews so I made sure to try this a few times before really giving my honest opinion. I love the unique magnetic packaging which makes it great for travel. In this trio, the colors are Bamboo, Mocha, and Trippin. The Mocha contour shade is a good match for my skin tone. I used a small contouring brush to apply and it was really hard for me to blend out. I thought it was because of the brush I used so I switched it up to a larger contouring brush.. same result. On my skin, Mocha was a bit drying. Not my fav. Now as for the other matte choice Bamboo is the concealer/matte highlight choice. Thankfully I had better results with this and it blended so easily. I put a bit under my eyes and didn’t crease or look cakey.. but I would probably choose another product for under eye concealer just because I prefer a more creamy choice with more coverage. My favorite of the trio is the shimmer stick in Trippin. I applied this with my finger to warm up the product and was very easy to blend out. I also put this shimmer on my lids which felt comfortable and lasted fairly long. Overall, I would give this a 6.5/10.
This next item is something I thought wouldn’t impress me. The Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer is definitely a new lippie favorite. I’m a huge fan of the large doe-foot applicator and I’m lovin’ the peach vanilla scent to it. This rosey nude color comfortably lasted more than 6 hours on my lips and was really moisturizing. If you’re into glosses, I would say this is a good choice for anyone who doesn’t feel like wearing something thick or sticky throughout the day because the consistency is very light. Huge win for me. Overall, I would give this a 9/10.
Last but not least, since highlighters are my favorite thing in the world I couldn’t resist and picked up 3 Killawatt Freestyle Highlighters. My choices were: Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby, Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal and Metal Moon. All these blend so smooth on my face without me feeling like a disco ball. I love how the duos I chose have a sheen finish and shimmer finish so you could mix them together to give it a more natural glow or use it alone. The compacts have a cool iridescent color to it which I think is a nice touch. Since these are freestyle highlighters I tried them all on my lids and it blended easily with a primer. If you are into more peachy highlights go for the Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby. If you are into more of a light pearly beige highlight go for the Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal. And if you want a golden pearl highlight go for Metal Moon. My favorites are Metal Moon and Lighting Dust/Fire Crystal. Overall, I would give these a 9/10.
I’m a big fan of this whole line so far. You can definitely tell Rihanna was highly involved with every single thing in creating each product. I’m so glad she didn’t just throw her name on any product and bump up the price. My two favorite products are definitely the Killawatt Highlighter in Metal Moon and the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation. Oh and P.S. sorry for the obnoxious watermarks.. still figuring out the best way to add those on my photos because sometimes people like to use my photos without asking. lame.
Anyways, I’m definitely looking forward to the new Holiday Collection releasing soon coming out October 13!
Let me know what your favorite products are from this line!
